Joe C. Rushing

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Carroll Rushing, age 76, are scheduled forThursday, November 22, 2007 in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Scotts Hill with Bro. Derrick Jowers and Bro. John D. Small officiating. Military Honors and burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mr. Rushing died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in Jackson. He was born March 23, 1931 in Henderson County.The son of the late Lester Rushing and Lucy Mildred Patterson Rushing of the Center Point Community in Southern Henderson County. Joe served our country with honor and pride in the U. S. Army from March 1953 until March 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Rushing worked at various occupations throughout his life. After his discharge from the Army, he was a correctional officer at Fort Pillow State Prison in Tiptonville, TN. He later worked for Mr. Riley Stanfill’s Roofing Business in Sardis, TN, and eventually retired from Century Electric in Lexington, as a machinist. Mr. Rushing spent his retirement years gardening and visiting his many relatives. He enjoyed listening to Gospel music and watching his grandchildren grow up into mature, caring adults. He loved his family and always encouraged them to be their best. Mr. Rushing leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Peggy. Together they had two children, Karin and husband, Danny Eason and Ronnie and wife, Angie Rushing. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Donna (John) White, Dana (Adam) Dunavant, and Daniel (Traci) Eason, four greatgrandchildren, Lillian White, Jake and Ruston Dunavant, and Kash Eason, one brother, Loyd (Mildred)Rushing, one niece, Kathy Sue Alexander, one sister, Pauline Austin, and one nephew, David Austin. Mr. Rushing leaves 6 sister-in-laws, Margie Yarbro, Marie Roach, Evelyn Pratt, Diane Montgomery, and Wanda Hamm, who almost never left Joe & Peggy’s side throughout his illness. Also, one brother-in-law, Earl (Joyce)Montgomery, and many nieces and nephews by marriage. Joe was blessed with a large loving family. He was preceded in death by one brother, Howell Rushing, a sister, Ruth Rushing, a neice, Patsy Rushing Moody, and a great grandson, Owen Kline White. Pallbearers to serve are, his son, Ronnie Rushing, Brian Smith, Jackie Hamm, Neal Hamm, Adam Dunavant, Bobby Pratt, and John White.
