Mrs. Julia Bobbitt Bloomingburg

Julia Bobbitt Bloomingburg died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Jackson, TN. She was born in Lexington, TN, September 30, 1928, the youngest child of the late James Arthur Bobbitt and Una Austin Bobbitt. She attended Lexington city schools and, graduated as valedictorian from Lexington High School in 1946. She graduated David Lipscomb College in 1950. While at Lipscomb she served as editor of the college newspaper, the Babbler. After graduation, Julia worked as a secretary with the United States Air Force at locations in Memphis, TN, Wiesbaden, Germany and at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. While in Arlington she met and married Gene Bloomingburg. After her marriage, she devoted herself to her family. Upon Gene’s retirement, she moved with her family back to Lexington, TN in 1977 where she lived until her death. She lived a full and happy life. She was a member of the Church of Christ from an early age, attending the Union Avenue congregation in Memphis, the Arlington Church of Christ, and the Broad St congregation in Lexington. She enthusiastically supported the work of the church at all locations. She had a love of history and travel, inspiring the same in her children. Other interests included UT sports, genealogy and watching the birds and other wildlife that frequented her yard She loved her neighbors and was blessed to have many good friends throughout her long life. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene Bloomingburg, her sisters, Ruth Bobbitt French, Evelyn Bobbitt and brothers, Austin Bobbitt and James A. Bobbitt. She is survived by her sons Gene (Nina) Bloomingburg, Bob (Janet) Bloomingburg and daughter Carol (Bill) Schoeni. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Scott Peterson, Grace and Julia Bloomingburg, Tyler Woods and Sarah and Lindsey Bloomingburg. Memorials may be made to the Broad St. Church of Christ, 131 North Broad St., Lexington, TN 38351; for Caribbean Missions, to Community Options , Inc. 329 N 5t St. Paducah, KY 42001 or to a charity of your choice . Visitation will be Friday, January 13th from 7-9 p.m., at Pafford Funeral Home, Lexington, TN and Saturday, January 14th from 10:30-1:00 p.m., at the Broad St. Church of Christ, Lexington, TN. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., at the Broad St. Church of Christ, with burial following at the Lexington Cemetery.
