Funeral services for Mr. Willard H. “Smokey” Yates, age 85, are scheduled for 1PM, Thursday, September 11, 2008 in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Breedlove officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Yates died late Monday in Jackson. He was born April 18, 1923 in Henderson County to the late William Henry and Ella Blankenship Yates. Mr. Yates was a WWII, U.S. Navy Veteran, a retired Mechanic for TVA and a member of Parkview Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 332. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gwendolyn Yates and two brothers, Allen and James Yates. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Bennie Yates of Jackson, one son, Rickey Yates (Sandy) of Pinson, two daughters, Vivian Stockard (David) of Jonesboro, AR and Pat Evans (Tracy) of Bells, TN, three sisters, Leathie Snyder of Lexington, Louise Phillips (Allison) of Verro Beach, FL, and Betty Dick (Clarence) of Reagan, eight grandchildren, Beth Murley (Roger), Clayton and Holly Stockard, Katie, Rebecca, Mitchell, and Abigail Evans and Tiffany Caton, and two great grandchildren, Drew and Eric Murley.
